INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY CELEBRATION

The international Yoga day celebration was celebrated on 21st June 2019 at Stella Maris English Medium School, Padanakad, Kanhangad, Kasargod district. The Yoga day celebration commenced at 9.00 am where the students of classes III to X with the teachers assembled together in the school auditorium. The celebration began with a prayer by the school choir. The school’s principal Sr. Alen Mary made the students aware about yoga and the importance of practicing yoga everyday; it was followed by a speech delivered by a student who spoke on how 21st June was adopted as a day to celebrate yoga internationally and also about its benefits in today scenario.
The school also conducted a quiz based on yoga for students of classes III to X. The students adorned the notice board with charts, drawings and essays spreading awareness about yoga. This was a great opportunity to activate the value of discipline. Yoga is a practice that needs to be carried out everyday. Children and teachers got the chance to know how yoga unites the mind and body.
All the students performed yoga between 9:00 am and 10:00 am with a warm up and different yoga postures (asanas) like Vajrasana, Shavasana, Padmasana, etc. It finally ended with Pranayama and meditation making everyone feels calm and relaxed.
A heart full thanks to our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for giving an opportunity for schools to celebrate the international yoga day. The school is also thankful to CBSE for initiating this under them and inculcating yoga as a part of the syllabus.
